Facing the realities of ecocide, systemic collapse, and ongoing genocides can be deeply isolating and overwhelming. This course offers a unique and vital space for anyone seeking to compassionately and actively engage with their grief.

Course Overview:

This course is thoughtfully designed to support experiencing and engaging with the profound grief of feeling and witnessing the suffering of self, community, and living world around us. Through a blend of somatic practices, poetic exploration, and intentional ritual, participants will learn to feel and process their grief making space for joy, love, and hope.

What You Will Experience:

  • Somatic Embodiment: you will learn practical tools to gently connect with and release stored grief and trauma in the body.

  • Poetic Reflection: we will engage with carefully selected poetry that speaks to themes of loss, resilience, and hope.

  • Weekly Practices & Rituals: We will co-create simple, yet profound, rituals and practices designed to help participants integrate their experiences, honor their feelings, and find pathways for joyful connection. These rituals can be adapted for individual use, providing ongoing support beyond the course.

  • Community & Connection: We will strive to cultivate a supportive online community where participants can share their experiences, bear witness to each other's grief, and nourish connections to self and others.

Who This Course Is For:

This course is for individuals grappling with the emotional toll of working towards a more just world, feeling overwhelmed by news of ecological devastation, societal breakdown, and humanitarian crises.

  • "What a wonderful course! From the readings, to the grounding exercises, to the in-group discussions, this course encouraged me to better understand my own complicated feelings and behaviors when I grieve, and the necessary role grief has in our lives. Kate is a great facilitator, listener, and guide."

  • "I was fortunate enough to participated in a grief group led by Kate and was so grateful for the experience. Kate has a wonderful way of creating space where people can show up as their authentic selves and engage in life giving conversations. She is skilled in creating rituals and practices that create a container for the exploration of the whole spectrum of emotions. I definitely recommend her for anyone who is interested in plumbing the depths of their inner landscape within a compassionate environment."

—Pastor Alison Harrington, Southside Presbyterian Church

  • "Engaging Grief was a powerful collective exercise. Kate is a skilled facilitator and having a dedicated space for grieving together was a tremendous gift. Kate’s knowledge of somatic practices and the exercises she prepared for us to do at home were very helpful. I highly recommend this course."

    —Bridget

  • "I received a great gift when I registered for "Engaging Grief"- a welcoming and safe space with others to gently unwrap the multi-layers of grief that so many of us are feeling. I highly recommend this course: the earth based practices, the poetry, grounding exercises, and most of all the compassionate space of listening to one another - all so helpful. This group is not another burdensome item on the list of "things to do." It is a freeing and supportive space for exploring one's grief and moving through it, at one's own pace, with a wise guide."
